Mango Curry

Mango Curry recipe with step by step photos – This is a tangy, sweet and hot curry. This is a South Indian especially Telangana traditional curry usually known as Rama rasam. One from many of my Grandmother’s recipes for all of you.

Mango curry recipe

Ingredients:

• Mango - 1
• Onion - 1
• Chana dal - 2 tbsp
• Jaggery - 2 tbsp
• Sesame powder - 1 and 1/2 tbsp
• Coriander powder - 1/2 tbsp
• Red chilli powder - 1 and 1/2 tbsp
• Salt - as per your taste
• Water - 250ml
• Coriander leaves chopped - 1 tbsp
• Mustard - 1tsp
• Cumin - 1tsp
• Red chilies - 1 full.

Step by Step Photos on how to make mango curry:

1. Take 1 onion, 1 mango and 2 tbsp of Chana dal.

2. Wash the chana dal and micro wave it for 3mins 30seconds or you can soak in hot water for 15mins or you can boil it water for 5 mins.

         

3. Meanwhile you can cut the onion and mango into medium sized pieces.

4. Take a pan, add oil keep it on medium flame, add mustard, cumin and red chilies.

5. Add onions to the pan once the mustard crackle.

6. Once the onions become little soft, add the chana dal which we have microwaved before.

     

7. Add the mango pieces when the onions have become translucent, and stir well for 1 minute.

8. Add 250 ml of water, you can add more water if you want the curry to be juicier. I like my curry juicier, so I have added more than 250 ml water.

  

9. Now take all the spices. 1tsp turmeric, 1 and ½ tbsp red chilie powder, ½ tbsp coriander powder, 1 and ½  tbsp sesame powder, 2 tbsp jaggery. I have used powdered jaggery here.

10. Add turmeric powder and salt as per your taste to the curry.

   

11. Let the curry boil for 3-5 mins on medium flame, check if the mango has boiled or not.

                

12. Once you see bubbles in the curry, add all the other spices to it, adjust the spices according to your taste.

13. Leave it on medium flame for 3-5 mins more and garnish it with coriander leaves.

14. The consistency of the curry came out exactly how I wanted it to be, 😊

15. Serve the yummiest traditional mango curry with hot rice, ghee and home made papads to enhance the taste 😊😊
